Hey all!
Welcome back to another week of 3 Question Friday (sorry this one is a little late)! Last week, we received a lot of questions as we are rushing into the Christmas holidays. Our top 3 questions were from Shirley, Keith and Annette - who all won themselves a $20 voucher to spend on our store by simply asking us a health & nutrition question.
This weeks questions were:
  1. Shirley was wondering “do you have any tips to stay healthy over the holidays?”
  1. Keith wanted to know “what’s your take on saturated fatty acids? Are they bad guy?”
  1. Annette explained that “I’m looking for something to treat the pain of my osteoarthritis. Can I replace my medication with hemp seed oil?”

1. Our top tips to staying healthy over the Holidays.

Everyone is always asking me how to keep the weight off over Christmas! It’s important to realise that over the Christmas break you will likely be eating more, drinking more and moving/exercising less – it’s only natural to add more weight. Instead, your focus should be on being kinder to yourself!

2020 has been a wild one, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Connect with your loved ones, and try taking a break from technology. There are still some simple things you can do such as getting a good nights rest, getting outdoors (walking, riding, swimming etc) and making time to do the things you don’t normally get to do!

2. What you should know about saturated fatty acids.

The New York Times reported “The sugar industry paid scientists in the 1960s to play down the link between sugar and heart disease and promote saturated fat as the culprit instead, newly released historical documents show.” (1)

Since then we’ve been blaming saturated fat for an increase in heart disease and other chronic conditions. More recent studies suggest that it may not exactly be inclusion of SFAs, but in fact increased carbohydrate intake (in particular refined sugar and carbohydrates) that may explain how the diet can impact heart disease (2).

To be on the safe side of things it’s probably best to minimise sugar intake, while also consuming lower amounts of saturated fat compared to polyunsaturated fats found in hemp seed oil (hemp seed oil).

For more information check out the article I recently wrote all about polyunsaturated fatty acids here.

3. Replacing your medication for osteoarthritis with Hemp Seed Oil.

I get a lot of emails asking for a cure for chronic health conditions eg. Osteoarthritis. While hemp seed oil can be beneficial in inflammatory disorders due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it’s important to consider that there may contributing factors to ones condition.

You should always consult with your GP before making changes to your medication. Using hemp seed oil in conjunction with your medication is a good place to start and then you can discuss further with your GP.

If you would like to try Hemp Seed Oil for your condition, you might like to try using it while on your medication - and if you see an improvement, go from there.
