October is Better Breakfast Month and what better way to start your week than with 13 Seeds’ Hemp Muesli, packed full of hulled hemp seeds and wholefood fruits and nuts, apricots, linseed and almonds to keep you healthy on the inside.
It’s a favourite of renowned artist and co-founder of 13 Seeds Gemma Lynch-Memory, who likes it with fresh fruit from the 13 Seeds family farm based along the pristine Tasmanian coastline near Hobart.
“Hemp is a nutrient powerhouse and gives me an instant boost in the morning when I eat our Hemp Muesli before a busy day with six children, painting and running the family business,” says Gemma.
The nutty flavour of hemp seeds is the perfect complement to the oats, fruit and nuts in the muesli and sure to supercharge your breakfast. Add a spoonful of probiotic yoghurt for extra goodness.
“Sometimes, I’ll use the Hemp Muesli to make muesli bars for the kids to take in their lunch boxes to school, or to eat in the car on their way to work,” says Gemma. “Hemp is perfectly safe for children and is a great addition for fussy eaters who may need a little bit more from their food.”
Hemp is a great source of plant-based protein, including Omega 3 and Omega 6 in the perfect 3:1 ratio. It’s also a source of magnesium, zinc and iron and contains free radical fighting antioxidants.
“It’s also a good source of fibre, which can help reduce cholesterol and may also help to stabilise blood sugar,” says Gemma. “Our Hemp is chemical free and grown in the world's cleanest and greenest cool temperate environment – grown and harvested in Tasmania and manufactured by 13 Seeds. Eat it for all those reasons, but also eat it because it tastes great!”
13 Seeds has Australia’s largest range of hemp superfoods and its Hemp Muesli ($14.95) is available online, as well as being available from selected health food stores and independent supermarkets nationally.
Hemp Muesli Slice
Our 13 Seeds Hemp Muesli contains wholefood fruits and nuts, including apricots, linseed and almonds to provide enough delicious flavours for a 2-ingredient muesli bar recipe:
Ingredients
3 cups muesli
1 cup condensed milk
Method
Pre-heat oven to 180C. Grease a slice tin with butter, or line with baking paper. Combine the ingredients and mix well. Pour mixture into the tin and bake for 25 minutes or until the top of the slice turns golden. Remove from the oven and let sit until cooled, before cutting into the desired size – bars or bit-size snack pieces. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
